Leon Berthiaume

Leon Berthiaume is currently serving his third year as President of the Rotary Club of St. Albans. A lifelong Vermonter and long-standing community leader, Leon is a proud Rotarian with eight years of membership, serving across two separate periods of involvement. His passion for service and community engagement has been a constant throughout both chapters of his Rotary journey.

 

Leon brings more than four decades of experience in business, agriculture, and nonprofit leadership to his Rotary work. He spent much of his professional career in the dairy industry, serving as Chief Executive Officer of the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery for more than 29 years before later retiring as Senior Advisor for Vermont Operations at Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA).

 

Beyond his professional achievements, Leon is deeply involved in community and economic development. He serves on the boards of Peoples Trust Company, the Franklin County Industrial Development Corporation, and the UVM Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He also served in leadership positions on the School Board, Northwestern Medical Center Board of Directors and chaired one of NMC Capital Campaign. He was also actively involved in Franklin-Grand Isle County United Way and other organizations.

 

As President, Leon has championed priorities aligned with the Rotary Action Plan—Membership Matters, Get Involved, Be Impactful, and Have Fun. Under his leadership, the club has launched a scholarship program, sponsored local students to attend RYLA, strengthened ties with the Interact Club, expanded service initiatives, and increased awareness of Rotary’s impact in the community. He guided the Club in its 100th Anniversary Celebration.  He also helped lead the creation of a new 501(c)(3) charitable foundation to support and expand the club's service mission.The Club received the distinguished District Club of the Year in 2025.

Leon and his wife, Anne, live in St. Albans,VT, and treasure time with their three children and six grandchildren. Outside of Rotary, he enjoys cycling, time on the lake, reading and staying active within the community to which he is deeply committed.
